Playground upgrade (proposed)
Approvals and scope are still being confirmed.
Whangamatā Area School is currently exploring the replacement and upgrade of the school playground. Friends of Whangamatā Area School (FOTS) intends to support this project through community fundraising and sponsorship once the project scope and approvals are confirmed.
At this stage, the project is still in the planning and approval phase.
What this project is about
The playground upgrade aims to create a safe, inclusive outdoor play space that supports students’ wellbeing, learning and physical development.
A new playground and outdoor area would help to:
- Support physical activity, play and wellbeing
- Enhance outdoor learning opportunities
- Create a safe and inclusive space for students of all ages
- Strengthen the school environment for future generations
Approval process
Before fundraising can formally begin, the project must go through the appropriate approval process, including:
- Ministry of Education approval (as required)
- Board of Trustees approval
- Confirmation of scope, concept design and costings
FOTS is committed to working alongside the school and ensuring all communication and fundraising activity is aligned and approved.
How FOTS will support
Once approvals are in place, FOTS plans to support the playground project by:
- Coordinating fundraising and community engagement
- Seeking grants and sponsorship support
- Providing regular progress updates to the community
- Helping deliver a transparent and well-managed fundraising process
Current status
The school is currently working through early project information including initial estimates, concept planning, and approvals.
FOTS will share updates on timelines, funding goals and progress once confirmed.
